In the late
1920's Marion Jarves Alger and a few friends founded the Neighborhood
Thrift Shop to help needy residents in this area. That was the
beginning of what has been a successful local non profit business ever
since. The Thrift Shop has moved to several different places over the
years but has always had the same purpose - to provide money for the
Neighborhood Club and good low cost merchandise for the customers.
The
Thrift shop is run by a small professional staff along with numerous volunteers
who have a choice of jobs to perform within the store. |
They can put
out,
straighten, and arrange items in the less expensive area. |
Those who do not
mind handling money can write up purchases and use the cash register. |
The
other option is to work in the French Room selling the better clothing. |
There
are often openings for interested volunteers - a weekly or biweekly commitment
of 2 1/2 hours is desired. |
Smart
shopping is knowing where to find those Hidden Treasures and at the
Neighborhood Club Thrift shop you'll be surprised by the selection. |
From
collectibles to children's games, the Thrift Shop offers a wide variety of
items |
Once you've taken the time to browse we're sure
you'll want to make it
